Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern your use of the LockMemo application (the "app"). By installing or using the app, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the app.

The short version: The app is provided as-is, under a license that lets you use it on your own devices. You, and only you, hold your master password — if you lose it, your data is unrecoverable. We're not liable for that, or for any other data loss.

1. License

LockMemo grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for personal or business use. You may not redistribute, sell, sublicense, reverse-engineer, or modify the app except where expressly permitted by law.

If you purchased the app, the license is governed additionally by the terms of the platform you purchased it from (Apple App Store or Google Play). Refunds are handled by that platform per their respective policies.

2. Your account, your master password

LockMemo does not maintain user accounts. The only credential relevant to the app is the master passphrase you choose when you first create a vault.

You are solely responsible for your master passphrase. Specifically:

• We never see your master passphrase. We cannot reset it, recover it, decrypt your data with it, or assist with retrieval.
• If you forget your master passphrase, your vault is permanently and mathematically inaccessible. There is no back door, no support recovery channel, no "I forgot" link.
• If you set up a passphrase hint at vault creation, that hint is stored in plaintext inside the vault metadata. Avoid hints that reveal the passphrase directly.

3. Your responsibility for backups and sync

LockMemo offers an optional Git sync feature and an export-to-ZIP backup feature. Whether and how to use them is entirely your choice and responsibility.

• We are not responsible for data loss caused by device failure, device reset, app uninstallation, OS upgrade, Git remote deletion, or any other event that affects storage outside our control.
• If you enable Git sync, you are responsible for the Git provider's reliability, availability, and any fees they charge.
• Exported ZIP backups are encrypted using the same key derived from your master passphrase. They are also unrecoverable without that passphrase.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use LockMemo to:

• Store, transmit, or distribute material that violates applicable laws.
• Circumvent or attempt to circumvent the app's security mechanisms in ways that would harm other users (the security is for your benefit).
• Reverse-engineer the app for the purpose of producing a derivative product, except as expressly permitted by law.

5. Crypto seed phrase storage

LockMemo includes a feature for storing BIP39 seed phrases under the same encryption used for other vault content. By choosing to store a seed phrase in LockMemo, you acknowledge and accept that:

• Hardware wallets are considered the most secure option for seed phrase storage. LockMemo is intended as a convenience or backup, not a replacement.
• Loss of your master passphrase results in permanent loss of the seed phrase and the cryptocurrency it controls.
• Screenshots, screen recordings, malware on a compromised device, and physical observers can capture the phrase while it is displayed. We mitigate the first two on Android via FLAG_SECURE; on iOS, user-initiated screenshots cannot be blocked at the application level.
• You are solely responsible for any financial loss resulting from the storage, exposure, or loss of seed phrases stored in the app.

6. Disclaimer of warranty

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR THAT THE APP WILL BE ERROR-FREE OR OPERATE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION.

Without limiting the foregoing, we do not warrant that the cryptographic implementations are free of bugs (although they use well-established primitives — AES-256-GCM, Argon2id, HMAC-SHA256), or that the app will protect against every possible attack vector (in particular, a compromised operating system can defeat any application-level protection).

7. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL GOKIT APPS, THE LOCKMEMO DEVELOPERS, OR CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, REVENUE, BUSINESS, GOODWILL, OR CRYPTOCURRENCY ASSETS, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE APP.

Our aggregate liability for any direct damages shall not exceed the amount you paid for the app in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or, if you did not pay anything for the app, USD $0.

8. Third-party services

If you use the optional Git sync feature, your interaction with the Git provider (GitHub, GitLab, etc.) is governed by that provider's terms of service, and is at your own risk. LockMemo is not a party to that relationship.

In-app purchases, if offered, are processed by the platform store (Apple App Store or Google Play) under their respective terms.

9. Modifications to the app

We may update, modify, or discontinue features of the app at any time, with or without notice. We aim to preserve backward compatibility for stored vaults across updates; we do not guarantee it for features beyond the basic vault format.

10. Termination

You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. We may terminate or restrict your license if you materially breach these Terms. Termination does not affect data stored locally on your device or on Git remotes you control; you continue to have access to those.

11. Governing law

These Terms shall be interpreted in accordance with general principles of international software licensing law. Disputes shall first be sought to be resolved by good-faith negotiation via the contact channel below. Where mandatory consumer protection law in your jurisdiction provides you with greater rights, those rights apply notwithstanding these Terms.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. When we do, the "Last updated" date at the top will change, and the new Terms will appear on this page. Continued use of the app after a revision constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
